        Background :
        This one day shore based course has been introduced by the RYA to enable boaters to get the very best from their radars, and to appreciate its limitations and strengths.
        This course is for anyone who wishes to learn how to use their radar effectively for both navigation and collision avoidance.
        Course Content :
        • Basic radar principles
        • Radar controls & Setting up procedures
        • Reading the picture
        • Navigation by radar (Radar Plotting)
        • Collision avoidance
        • Safety precautions to be observed
        • Appreciation of Radar Reflectors and Radar Transponders
        • Appreciation of MARPA
          Course Duration :
          1 Day (0900-1700)

          Entry Requirements :

          None,

          Legal Requirements :
          This course meets the training requirements for skippers of licenced workboats fitted with radar.

          Materials & Equipment:
          RYA Radar Course Notes RC/99 included in course fee.
          Please bring with you a notebook & pen, (although provided, you may also wish to use your own navigational plotter, dividers/compass)
          "RYA Introduction to RADAR" - The course book (included in course fee)

          Course Objective:
          After the course you should have sufficient knowledge, that with practice, you will be able to use the radar to help with collision risk assessment and navigation in reduced visibility.A RYA Radar course completion certificate will be issued at the end of the course.
