GMDSS Radio Courses & Info...
To communicate effectively mariners need to understand the new procedures and equipments being introduced for GMDSS. The following pages give details of our Radio Courses plus information on maritime nets and frequencies.
Course Summary
RYA VHF Course and Examination.
VHF Course has been discontinued (effective September 2000.)
All new VHF equipment sold in UK will incorporate or be compatible with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). The RYA Short Range Certificate has replaced the VHF only certificate and is designed for small craft sailors who sail in coastal waters.
The Long Range Certificate is the radio qualification for mariners venturing out of VHF range. (valid for vessels up to 300 grt).
4 Day LRC course: Qualifies holder for GMDSS using SSB Radio and Satellite communications.
The ROC is a GMDSS qualification designed for Merchant Navy Bridge Watchkeeping Officers on vessels trading within a GMDSS Sea Area A1.
The ROC is a STCW-95 GMDSS qualification acceptable by the MCA for Master 200gt (limited) / Officer Of The Watch (Yacht) 500gt (MGN 195), and also for revalidation of certain Foreign Going Deck Officers Certificates.
A one day course to introduce new users to the basics of Setting-up and using a modern small boat radar.
ABOUT RT TRAINING
RT Training was established in 1993.It is now owned and operated by Kim Holt who's career in Marine Communications has included working as a Radio Officer at Portishead, Northforeland, Niton Radio and SS Rotterdam. He has taught and examined GMDSS at Southampton Institute, Warsash Maritime College, UKSA, Blue Water (Antibe) and for the RNLI
Our philosophy on communications training is to keep it simple and to provide an easy friendly atmosphere where jargon and theory are kept to a minimum.
